Whether we want to accept it or not, Artificial Intelligence is slowly incorporating into day-to-day life. In travel, however, it can be used in a beneficial way! If you’re wondering how to be a better traveler, ALLMYNE can help you explore the world in a more sustainable way.

With the ALLMYNE app’s official launch on the horizon, we are going to explore other ways that technology helps us be better travelers. But first, let’s talk about our lovely app which you’ll be able to find in app stores very soon using the links at the bottom of this article.

ALLMYNE as a company is all about sustainability. We work to connect travelers with guides and others who want to see the world while promoting eco-friendliness—which we will touch on further in a few minutes. Through the ALLMYNE app, you can use anything from your desktop and laptop to tablet and cellphone.

With this easy-to-use platform, you can create and share detailed itineraries, organize travel memories, and connect with like-minded travelers. That’s just a taste of what ALLMYNE offers users. Let’s see how ALLMYNE is leading travel technology’s efforts to be sustainably eco-friendly.

There are many ways a traveler can help conserve our ecosystem while avoiding the overuse of natural resources like oil. We are going to break down how to become a better traveler into three major categories for you:

  1. What to Bring
  2. What in the World is IoT?
  3. The Use of Robots and Electronics

How to Be a Better Traveler Category 1: What to Bring

You want to learn how to be a better traveler, so you’re probably thinking that luggage is a no-brainer. It’s how you can bring a piece of home with you wherever you may go.

But did you know that there is eco-friendly luggage out there? For example, my Aldi’s reusable bags have yet to fail me when I go grocery shopping—except for when I forget them at home—so much so that I now bring them to every grocery store I visit.

I can pack them to the brim and have no worries about the handles snapping or my groceries falling out because of one cardboard box corner—darn you, sharp-cornered cereal boxes ripping open plastic bags! Also, I love carrying around a bag that has an adorable beach wave design on it. How fashionable!

Eco-friendly luggage is the same way. Plus, you don’t have to break the bank in order to afford it. Here are some options we recommend:

Packing cubes are all the rage these days. They allow you to pack more while taking up less room. For example, Paravel has some pricey options for their luggage and totes. The material for their articles comes from negative nylon, which is just recycled plastic water bottles. How neat!

The next place you should look into that is a lot more reasonably priced is Lo & Sons.

Not only are they a small, Asian American, family-owned business, but they also donate 5% of their proceeds to local NY organizations and nonprofits. They have a fall sale going on right now, so take advantage of that!

Finally, when it comes to those lovely overnight stays for a quick getaway, a duffle bag should be the go-to. Anchal has a wonderful collection of duffle bags with various fashionable styles.

Even better, their most expensive duffle on the site right now is only $156 USD! These bags last a lot longer than regular bags because of their sustainable materials. They also have some apparel and home decor for you to check out, too.

On top of this, ALLMYNE has merchandise for you to buy. Every single order plants one tree, and you can even just plant two trees if you’ve bought up everything our store has to offer for just a measly $2.

Do you know how expensive trees are? Let alone two of them! Additionally, a majority of the items in our store are environmentally friendly sourced.

Our ceramic mugs, cotton twill baseball caps, and polycarbonate suitcases are made from highly sustainable materials.

We can’t forget about clothing, too. Here are things you have to think about when searching for sustainable fashion:

  • YOU DON’T HAVE TO BUY BRAND NEW CLOTHES: I know, I know. You weren’t expecting that one. But it’s a huge part of learning how to be a better traveler. A majority of my closet is from secondhand shops or hand-me-downs. You can make anything in your closet work for you. Granted, I have a mother who knows her way around a sewing machine to help me repurpose my clothing, but you definitely have clothes you can recycle. Along with this, we recommend you donate your clothes to the Salvation Army or Goodwill because it helps others—like myself—find their next fashion inspirations. This is the most sustainable way to be an eco-friendly fashionista.
  • Don’t believe everything you read on the internet: Believe it or not, people on the internet don’t always have the best intentions for you—not like ALLMYNE does at least. So, how can you tell if the website you’re looking at is actually being honest about their clothing’s impact on the environment? Easy. Brands that are truly reducing their energy consumption will have some sort of partnership with sustainable companies and/or standardized certifications to back up their claims. For example, if a business is a certified B Corporation, you can feel at ease because their standards are incredibly strict when it comes to a company’s environmental impact.

So, what are some sustainable brands we recommend? Firstly, you should know that there are databases for sustainable companies to make your life a lot easier.

You can check out Good on You or Remake’s Sustainable Brand Directory to help you narrow down your options. (One quick note: Remake’s Brand Directory is only for large companies. We really recommend Good on You as your first choice because not only do they give you price ranges and an easy way to search for the clothing articles you’re looking for, but they’re also supported by Emma Watson. What is more reliable than an endorsement by Hermione Granger?)

Our first recommendation is inNEOSS, a small business based in London and run by two best friends! Can’t get much smaller than that! They select designers based on those who align with their ethical and sustainable practices. They also love new and exciting designs, making this a place for your next one-of-a-kind piece. Albeit pricey, these clothes are absolutely timeless.

Another smaller business you should look into is Outland Denim. They have created their own facility for production, limiting their environmental footprint. Additionally, they support young individuals who have been a part of modern slavery (i.e. sweatshops) by training them and giving them economic empowerment. Another fun feature is that each piece of clothing comes with a unique QR code that shows the owner the entire process of how that article came into existence.

Finally, our most affordable option is Organic Basics. This is a sustainable haven for all your necessities. Tops, bottoms, sweaters, you name it, Organic Basics has it. All of their clothes are designed in Copenhagen, and each factory that produces their clothing has wonderful benefits for their employees. I was shocked to see the low prices of their clothing and might just need to restock my closet with a few staple articles I need.

How to Be a Better Traveler Category 2: What in the World is IoT?

IoT, or “Internet of Things,” sounds like the most generic term, like “The Somethings of Stuff,” and in some ways it is as generic as that.

According to Amazon Web Services, IoT is “the collective network of connected devices and the technology that facilitates communication between devices and the cloud, as well as between the devices themselves.” If you’re lost like me, keep reading.

Basically, IoT is the integration of the internet with everyday things like your fridge, thermostat, or other home gadget.

I am currently clutching my vintage typewriter with fear at the thought of there being more internet interference in our lives. But we have to embrace the times we live in. Especially if you want to learn how to be a better traveler! A non-travel example of this that my partner came up with is a coffee pot that is linked to your alarm and starts brewing when it goes off in the morning, which is actually pretty cool.

But how does that affect how we travel? Well, I’ll tell you.

Have you ever ordered tickets for a museum or park ahead of time on your phone? This is just one of many examples of IoT.

Using apps—like ALLMYNE—you can make the most of your experiences by skipping long lines and being pre-prepared. Smart electronic key cards in hotels and real-time alerts about flight information are also great instances of IoT in the world of traveling and tourism.

Due to these technological advances, sustainable travel can be at the forefront of your mind because IoT devices will think of all the rest.

How to Be a Better Traveler Category 3: Apps and Robots

The first—and only—time I got to experience robot servers was at a sushi restaurant in Virginia Beach. While I was also on a quest to learn how to be a better traveler, it was quite interesting to see what the robot was and wasn’t capable of.

It would come to the table, rattle off the table number, and wait for us to remove all the dishes before wheeling away to collect more.

You may have also seen these types of robots yourself, especially at hotels, where robots can be part of cleaning staff or luggage carriers. No more bellhops breaking their backs to carry your suitcases up to your suite!

One of the worst things about traveling is hands down airport security. Just the words themselves make me feel tense! The lines are long. Half of the people don’t know what they’re doing. The no-nonsense security guards can be really short with you, turning the start of your travel dreams into a travel nightmare.

With robots helping facilitate airport security, we can see more efficiency in how things are processed during that stressful time.

The ALLMYNE app if you’re learning how to be a better traveler. On top of all the other incredible features of the app, it has an AI Recommender that gives you options on restaurants, hotels, and countless other attractions around where you’ll be visiting.

By minimizing your travel time and layovers, you will be able to minimize your carbon footprint in return!

So maybe you aren’t ready yet for robot butlers or self-driving cars, but the travel and tourism industries both are benefiting from the uses of technology.

Whether it’s IoT devices or the ability to research if that clothing brand you like is really sustainable, the internet can be a useful tool when it comes to how we travel.

We should all strive to be the kind of travelers who make the world a place where future travelers can enjoy it in the way we do.
