Ingredients
- Eight pears
- 2 c. water
- 2 c. sugar
- Cinnamon stick
- 10 cloves
- Large pod of fresh ginger (or 1 tsp. of powdered ginger)
- Red wine
- Blue cheese (opt.)
- Ginger cookies
Instructions
- Peel eight pears and cut the bottom so they can lay flat in a pot.
- Boil 2 cups of water with 2 cups of sugar, one cinnamon stick, 10 cloves, a large pod of fresh ginger, cut into slices, or one teaspoon of powdered ginger.
- Pour this syrup through a strainer over the pears and add enough red wine to cover the pears.
- Place in the oven and cook at 320°F until tender to the fork.
- Take the liquid and boil it down until it’s a thick syrup to pour over the pears at serving time. The core stays in the pear.
- Use both spoon and fork for serving. If you wish, blue cheese may be served in a crumbled format over the pears and syrup. Add two ginger cookies to the plate. Enjoy!
