In honor of the National Caribbean-American Heritage month, we wanted to highlight one of their lesser known islands, Dominica—not to be confused with the Dominican Republic. Gorgeous waterfalls and beaches are just the tip of the iceberg here as far as its beauty and culture. Their current travel advisories at the time of writing are at a Level 1, so feel free to book your trip through ALLMYNE with ease!
Dominica is in the eastern Caribbean near Guadeloupe and Martinique. Historically, it was the last island to be colonized by the Europeans because of the iron-clad rebellion of the native Caribs. Their highest peak is the Morne Diablotins, a dormant volcano, and they had the first ever female prime minister in the Caribbean, Mary Eugenia Charles who was in office for 15 years.
There are various nature-oriented explorations one can partake in from scuba diving and visiting the Trafalgar Falls to seeing the Boiling Lake in the Morne Trois Pitons National Park and whale watching.
At the end of October, they’re having their annual World Creole Music Festival. More information about that can be found here. If you’re someone who loves hiking, Dominica has easy, intermediate, and advanced trails to challenge you. Furthermore, it’s not nicknamed “The Nature Island” for nothing.
There are acres of rainforests with hot springs and waterfalls, and one of their most beautiful stops is the Emerald Pool. The water takes on the shade of emerald green as it is fed from a 40-foot waterfall.
If you love the beauty of the outdoors, you can’t go wrong with seeing Dominica. Want to take that scuba-dive but don’t know where to start? ALLMYNE has you covered. With certified guides and memory preservation services, make ALLMYNE all yours.
