So, you’ve decided to go to the Caribbean. You’ve linked with a certified guide on ALLMYNE, your flight has been booked, and you have an itinerary of what you plan to do; but there’s one thing left to figure out. What in the world should you pack? Well, we’ve got all the essentials to consider when preparing for your Caribbean adventure!
- Backpack or a cross-body bag
- If you’re going on any tours or hikes, it will be helpful to have a place you can carry all your essentials. This can double as a carry on bag for the flight.
- Light breathable clothing
- The temperature in the Caribbean is usually between the low to high 80s (20-30º C). The biggest mistake people make is overpacking when it comes to clothing. Bring shorts you can wear with multiple shirts in order to keep your suitcase from being too heavy. Also, don’t bother packing your straightener or hair dryer. The humidity will make any styling a waste of time.
- Nightlife outfits
- These can be dresses and button-down shirts for fancier restaurants. Nights can still be really warm and humid, so opt for a lightweight jacket in case of cooler evenings.
- Flip flops or sandals
- Sneakers
- If you plan to do a lot of walking, a nice pair of sneakers are a good choice to keep your feet from getting blistered and tired. To save room in your suitcase, wear them on your flight.
- Swimsuit if you plan to swim, snorkel, or spelunk
- At least two is wise so you have one you can wear while the other dries.
- Hat and sunglasses to keep yourself safe from the sun
- Remember that even if it’s cloudy, you can still be affected by the sun’s UV radiation!
- Water bottle
- Stay hydrated, especially for longer excursions.
- Travel-sized toiletries including sunscreen, bug spray, and after-sun lotion (preferably something with aloe vera in it!)
- Phone and charger so you can geo-track your location through ALLMYNE and save all the pictures you take
- Portable chargers can be a smart idea as well if you plan to be away from outlets for a while.
- GoPro if you want to get some neat underwater videos
- Snorkel gear
- If you plan to go snorkeling regularly and have your own gear, it will be cost-effective to bring your own gear rather than rent.
- Rain gear
- Hurricane season is June 1 to November 30 with the high points in August and September, so pack a lightweight raincoat for hikes and tours.
- Passport and boarding passes
- Make sure to put these in your carry-on! These being in the luggage you check in will not be very helpful in getting you through security. 😂
- Books for leisure reading
- Packing cubes
- They’re the new craze that allow you to organize everything into separate pods, making everything easier to access.
- Cash for taxis, depending on the island
We hope you’re enjoying these series posts at ALLMYNE. Keep an eye out to see what we’ll have in store for you next month! Happy traveling!
