As you know from reading my letter this month, we will be diving into the world of landscape architecture. But first, what exactly is landscape architecture?

Well, imagine if science and design had a little garden baby. Thatโ€™s landscape architecture. First used by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux in 1863 when they designed Central Park, landscape architects plan everything from park and resorts to cemeteries and waterfront developments. They can also plan out the restoration of natural places. It has been described as the study and practice of designing indoor and outdoor environments that encompass elements of art, environment, architecture, engineering, and sociology. A landscape architectโ€™s main goal is to create โ€œlife between the buildings.โ€ย

Going hand-in-hand with architecture, horticulture, and city planning, landscape architecture enhances nature, and its aesthetic aspects involve form, plants, color, scent, size, climate, and function. The Landscape Architecture Magazine says, โ€œLandscape architecture is dedicated to the design of healthy environments and communities, and to protecting the health, safety, and welfare of people.โ€ With alterations and enhancements of the natural terrain, landscape architects are the ones we have to thank for the beautiful greenery sprinkled around our buildings.

Stay tuned for more next time where we will look at some must-see attractions!
